Guided snowshoe hill hike
For those who are out to explore more!
A snowshoe hike is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the wild and beautiful nature around Tromsø and experience Northern Norway at its best. Our snowshoe hike takes you to one of the many summits in Kvaløya or on the mainland with majestic views over the surrounding mountains and fjords (weather permitting, of course!)
The tour starts with a scenic 40-minute road trip around the fjords and mountain passes. After a safety briefing, your guide will show you how to put on and use the snowshoes before embarking on your adventure.
During the tour there will be plenty of time to take photographs, and your guide will share their knowledge about life in the north, the Tromsø region and the arctic environment. When you reach the summit, you will take a break to enjoy a hot drink and refuel with some delicious lefse – a local sweet snack.
The hike to the summit is just under 400 m in snowy mountain terrain. A moderate level of fitness and health is required. We don't recommend this tour for guests with heart conditions or limited physical abilities. If you feel that 3.5 hours might be too much and you still want to explore outside Tromsø Island, check out our Guided easy snowshoeing with a visit to a local café. This tour takes place on Malangen and includes a stop for coffee and cake at a local waterfront cafe.
As the weather can change rapidly in Northern Norway, you must wear warm and windproof clothes to join the tour. Clothing is not included in the price of the trip. Suitable clothing can be rented separately at our rental centre with prior arrangements.
From mid-February onward, we recommend bringing sunglasses and sunblock. The sun can be surprisingly intense due to the reflection from the snow.
